MANAROLA
Manarola is the second of the Cinque Terre towns located in the province of Spezia, and is joined to the town of Riomaggiore by the famous via dell’Amore, a seaside road that is ideal for a romantic walk along the sea.
The train route to Manarola takes you through a tunnel that lies halfway between the port on your right and the small church square, which can be reached on foot if you have travelled to Manarola by car.
Ascending towards the church, it is possible to admire a beautiful view of the hamlet its multicoloured houses, which are nestled into the rocky outcrop of land that the hamlet is situated on. As well as the beautiful gothic style church, with its large rose window, bell tower and the Disciples’ oratory chapel, there are also two other sacred buildings.
The main street leads directly down to the sea. A left turn onto via Rollandi takes you up through narrow alleyways to a small clearing that looks out over the sea. If you continue along the same road, you will eventually arrive at another small clearing dedicated to Montale, which is a beautiful setting from which to watch the sunset, seated comfortably on a bench.
The road down to the sea eventually leads directly to the small port, which is located directly below the old keep and hides a selection of bars and restaurants. Past the port lies the cemetery, which is still visible thanks to the large inscription located at the entrance. The walk to the cemetery offers the nicest and most typical view of Manarola, and the path continues on towards Corniglia, along the Blue Path that unites the Cinque Terre.
